Gotta Love Year Round School!

So, the kids were "off track" for a few weeks. At the beginning of the three weeks, flashes of this past summer went through my head and I began sweating bullets at the thought of a repeat! Keep in mind, I also had a brand new baby last summer, so it wasn't a fair comparison to make : ) However, it was also Kerin's first week back on the road in over 2 months, so I was flying solo again!

It actually went surprisingly well. So well, that when my kids went back to school, I missed them terribly! We were able to make cookies, crafts, organize some things, etc. Plus, I had two extra potty trainers, although Sam and Jace weren't crazy about their new job titles. But, it seemed to work - Lexi only has accidents once in a great while.

A pirate hunt, a toilet, and some random guy!

On Tuesday nights, Samantha has Girl Scouts and the other kids feel left out - so last night we decided to go on a pirate hunt around the house. We couldn't go outside - because Callie had blown out her diaper and was just in a onesie...
After getting a pirate shirt (with skull and crossbones), a nerf sword, and a pirate headband, we were ready to go. Callie became the "wizard baby", her job was to shake her toy and yell "booga booga" - she actually did a very good job at scaring the ghosts away.

As we went up the stairs - Jace told us to be quiet because there were lions and tigers and ... giraffes! Apparently we need to watch Wizard of Oz with them. I asked them what we were looking for and Lexi said, "we are hunting for booties!" Jace looked pretty disgusted and corrected her, "we are looking for gold doubloons, Lexi!" Alas, all we found at the end of our hunt: OREOS!!! Hey - whatever works!

Today, 10/5/11, turned out kind of crazy. I was watching kids for my neighbor, so we had two kids under 3 and two under 6 months (both of them teething!) The kids were taking turns crying, but at least they weren't all going at the same time. As I was feeding Callie, I heard the toilet flushing numerous times. I called her name and asked her what she was doing. Her reply? "Don't worry mommy. I am just taking a bath!" I hurried and put Callie down and ran into the bathroom. There is Lexi - standing in the toilet, flushing it repeatedly!! Still dressed, but at least not wearing shoes. It was actually an ingenious way to ensure that she got an actual bath!

After naps (I miraculously got all 4 to sleep at the same time!), I began playing "Don't Break the Ice" with Lexi and Jaycie (her friend). Lexi and Jaycie asked what the bears name was. I told them I didn't know and that we should give him one. Lexi replied, "I know, his name is Some Random Guy". I asked her to repeat it and she said it again. We played the entire time with her and Jaycie yelling "Some Random Guy - fall down!!!" It was hilarious.

As you can see - staying home is never boring, quite exhausting, and entertaining after you get over the initial annoyance! Plus, I wouldn't get to wake up to this every morning!

Domestic Life!

I am still surprised that I am actually staying at home. I was filling out something the other day and it asked where I worked, I started writing in it before I realized that I didn't work anywhere but home. The amazing thing, is this is by far the most difficult job I have ever had! When I was working as an HR Manager, people actually listened to me and respected my opinion. Now, my kids know more than I could ever hope to and seem to think that I have no idea what I am talking about. They also think I spend my day thinking of ways to torture them - normally it is whatever meal I am planning on cooking : )

This week was great. I got to spend some time with my sweet mom canning peaches. It was much easier than I thought, just took some time. All 28 quarts sealed - success!!! Now I am looking forward to making them into a yummy peach cobbler.

Samanth and Jace also had dentist appointments this week. It took us a good 10 minutes to convince Samantha to open her mouth just to get x-rays. Who would have thought she would need valium for a cleaning! Of course, she has a couple of cavities that we have to go get filled in a couple of weeks. Please pray for her dentist - I have no idea how he is going to convince her to open her mouth. At least Jace had no cavities and was a member of the "Tuffy Tooth" club. Lexi is going in for a "happy visit" next week. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is a good one.

I am waiting for Kerin to get home from his latest trip to Seattle. Although it sucks having him gone all week, it has enabled me to stay at home with our kids (which I am grateful for - most of the time!). I am excited for this weekend and General Conference. Hopefully our kids will cooperate and listen to conference while doing some activities I found online. Between conference, two soccer games, and dinner with Papa Fred and Grandma Niece, another packed weekend ahead!
